Dry July – healthy lifestyle habits

Reduction in inflammation, fatigue, and risk of heart disease

Having a drink to catch up with friends or celebrating another week of work done is a great way to connect with friends and family socially.  However, if you are feeling the repercussions more and more the next day, it could be a warning sign of inflammation, fatigue, and heart disease.

Luckily, Dry July is here, and offers a great opportunity to break old habits and embrace healthier routines.

Cutting Out Bad Habits
Evaluating your relationship with alcohol is a step in the right direction.

Excessive drinking is often linked to increased stress on the body and can result in lower testosterone levels in men.

Making the change to refreshing drinks such as sparkling water or Kombucha is a great way to stay social while still looking after your health and maintaining low levels of inflammation in the body.

Dry July is a great way to limit alcohol in your diet and spend the time focusing on the things that matter most to you.

Managing Stress
Life has become increasingly stressful with many people trying to juggle working long hours with their family responsibilities.  It is important, however, to manage your stress levels as, otherwise, they can negatively impact your health, and, the health of your heart.

Taking the time to do the things that make you happy (such as exercise, spending time with our children or starting a new hobby) is a great example of investing in your heart health.  This has been shown to leave your heart fulling healthier and fuller, and could reduce the levels of inflammation in the body caused by the stress hormone cortisol.

Hydrate Regularly
If you are struggling to remember when you last had a drink of water, it might be time to head to the kitchen.  Dehydration can affect your brain function, mood, and energy levels.  In one study, young men who lost 1.59 per cent of their fluid had a poorer working memory function and experienced increased feelings of anxiety and fatigue.

Make sure you are drinking water regularly and throughout the day, especially as you feel your energy levels slipping.

Antioxidants and Supplementation to fight inflammation
Antioxidants are nature’s secret ingredient to fighting inflammation in the body.  There are many natural ways to include antioxidants in your diet, including blueberries and bergamot citrus extract.

If you are not getting the right results from natural methods, it could be worth supplementing your diet with Ubiquinol.  As a readily occurring antioxidant found in our body, Ubiquinol is an easy way to fight inflammation caused by oxidative stress.  For those of us who have tight deadlines and busy schedules, supplementation is a great way to get the inflammation-fighting antioxidants our body needs.

Speak to your healthcare practitioner to find out which supplement is right for you. Always read the label and use only as directed.
