What a time Kaneka Ubiquinol™ had at The Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society’s National Pharmacy Convention 2024 (NPC 2024), themed “Pharmacy of The Future: Embracing Innovative Practices” with 500+ delegates. It was an honour to attend the MPS National Pharmacists Convention in Putrajaya. The event wrapped up with a series of engaging sharing sessions, an insightful forum and an award-presenting ceremony.
It was great to hear Dr Afif Ashari, a Cardiologist at the National Heart Institute, present the latest data on heart disease prevalence in Malaysia. He revealed that 33.3% of Malaysian adults have high cholesterol. He also discussed the 2018 AHA/ACC Guidelines on statin-associated side-effects and underscored that cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality worldwide.
Dr Ashari emphasised the importance of Malaysia’s Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) for managing coronary heart disease and the pivotal role pharmacists play in monitoring and supporting patient health literacy and medication adherence.
We were also thrilled to connect with Associate Professor Dr Tin Fei Sim from the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia, who encouraged Malaysian Pharmacists to adopt a patient-centric approach, focusing on understanding and addressing patient issues. Self-care is high on the agenda in Australia, and the pharmacist’s role in empowering patients with knowledge and support is key to success.
Dr Sim highlighted that statistics show that approximately 50% of hospitalisations are preventable and advocated for pharmacists to conduct more medication reviews, which would contribute to significant cost savings for the healthcare system.
A huge thank you to Gina Koay for her expertise and to everyone who attended for their enthusiasm and commitment. Together we’re driving innovation and excellence in health and wellness!
