Ubiquinol for Mood, Menopause and Quality of Life

As women age, they often face a range of health challenges associated with menopause, including mood disturbances, reduced energy levels, and a decline in overall quality of life (QoL). Kaneka Ubiquinol™ has been shown to offer significant benefits in managing these issues.

Clinical studies have highlighted Kaneka Ubiquinol™’s potential in improving mood, alleviating menopausal symptoms and enhancing QoL for older women, with a recent 2024 study looking at the benefits for mood alongside exercise.

Improving Mood and Mental Health

Menopause can bring about significant mood changes, including increased levels of anxiety and depression. A study just released in March 2024 investigated the effects of Kaneka Ubiquinol™ supplementation combined with exercise associated with social interaction on the mental health of older healthy females.[1]

📊 Key findings

100 mg of Kaneka Ubiquinol™ daily significantly improves positive mood scores in healthy older females when taken alongside 1 hour of social exercise.

🧑🏽‍🤝‍🧑Participants: 13 healthy older Japanese women with average age of 76, over one month of treatment

📄Methods: In this double-blind, randomised-controlled crossover trial, healthy older female subjects were analysed using the BOUQUET (behaviour output analysis for quantitative emotional state translation), two daily psychological questionnaires (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II)), blood markers (serum ubiquinol, serum ubiquinone, TSH, IL-4, ADH) and body surface temperature via infrared camera.

🔬Results: Analysis indicates the potential synergistic effects of oral Kaneka Ubiquinol™ intake and socio-physical training on the mental health of healthy female older adults, with Ubiquinol intake and physical exercise mutually contributing to positive psychological outcomes.

The antioxidant properties of Ubiquinol help reduce oxidative stress, which is known to negatively impact mood and cognitive function, and the levels of Ubiquinol naturally decline with age, suggesting an association with age-related depression and fatigue.

Alleviating Menopausal Symptoms and Enhancing Quality of Life

Menopause often leads to various physiological changes that can impact a woman’s quality of life, encompasses physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats and fatigue are common. A 2019 study focused on the effects of Kaneka Ubiquinol™ on the quality of life (QoL) for healthy postmenopausal women.[2]

📊 Key findings

100mg of Kaneka Ubiquinol™ daily significantly improves the QoL of postmenopausal women, as well as improving their general health, mood and skin condition.

🧑🏽‍🤝‍🧑Participants: 40 healthy women aged 45-65, over 3 months

📄Methods: In this observational study, 40 healthy women with naturally occurring menopause completed the Cervantes Scale quality of life (reduced version) survey, the EUROQOL self-assessment questionnaire, and the visual analogue scale (VAS) for mood and skin.

🔬Results: It was found that supplementation of Kaneka Ubiquinol™ significantly improved the quality of life of the menopausal women, with considerable improvement in cramping, and tingling hands and feet, improved mood and perception of skin condition, and improved their general health.

These benefits are attributed to Ubiquinol’s role in supporting mitochondrial function and energy production, antioxidant activity, immune support and improvement in physical performance, which are critical during the energy-demanding and high oxidation phases of menopause.

As such, Kaneka Ubiquinol™ stands out as a valuable supplement for navigating the challenges of ageing by providing greater energy, better mental health, improved physical vitality enhanced general health during the life stages of older women.
