As a naturally occurring antioxidant within your body, Ubiquinol plays a key role in the body’s production of energy[i]. So, if you are feeling depleted and tired read on to learn more about how Ubiquinol works and how supplementation may be able to assist you.
What is Ubiquinol?
Ubiquinol is the reduced, active form of Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), responsible for the production of cellular energy in the body[i]. As we grow older, from approximately the age of 30, our bodies natural levels of Ubiquinol decline and this can take place even earlier if we are stressed or significantly physically active[ii]. Depleted Ubiquinol levels in the body lead to a loss of energy and feeling of fatigue[iii].
The Science behind Ubiquinol
With over 30 years of research supporting CoQ10 (ubiquinone), Ubiquinol has been recognised in the last 20 years as the active from of CoQ10 which is more readily available and absorbed in the body[iv]. As one of the strongest lipid-soluble antioxidants found naturally in our bodies[v], Ubiquinol has been shown to provide health benefits across a range of area[vi]. Most notably is the essential role Ubiquinol plays in the production of cellular ATP (energy) production throughout the cells in our body. Importantly, the organs which require the most energy to work ie our heart, liver and brain, have the highest concentration of ubiquinol. When this depletes with age, those functions start to slow down. As well as being a vital component in energy production, Ubiquinol also provides defence against free radical attack – helping to protect the bodies cells and thereby reducing oxidative stress and inflammation.[vii]. There are more than 30 scientific studies supporting ubiquinol’s efficacy relating to heart health, energy production and male sperm health.[viii].
How Ubiquinol can help your energy level?
Ubiquinol is the naturally occurring antioxidant responsible for producing energy (ATP Production) in the cells of our body. Ubiquinol as the reduced, active antioxidant form of CoQ10 (ubiquinone), plays a vital role in the process of transferring aerobic energy-supply, ultimately exerting a great influence on the production of ATP.
Without Ubiquinol within the body’s cells, cellular energy cannot be produced or sustained leaving our key organs lacking in energy. The more energy an organ requires, the higher its concentration of naturally occurring energy eg heart, liver and brain.
The body’s ability to produce CoQ10 declines with age, as does the ability to convert it into Ubiquinol. Therefore, Ubiquinol supplementation may help support both healthy ageing and ATP production – optimally supporting overall energy production.
