Our recent webinar, A Pharmacist’s Guide to Ubiquinol’s Impact on Cardiovascular Health and Healthy Ageing, brought together pharmacists and healthcare professionals from all backgrounds to explore Ubiquinol’s benefits with insights from one of Australia’s leading Integrative Cardiologists, Dr Ross Walker.
This enlightening session offered attendees an in-depth look at the science of Kaneka Ubiquinol™, its role in heart health and energy production, and practical applications for guiding patients on effective supplementation.
Here’s a look at the key learning outcomes and takeaways from Dr Walker’s expert presentation.
Attendees gained a clear understanding of the differences between Ubiquinol and ubiquinone, which are both forms of CoQ10 that vary in bioavailability and function. Dr Walker highlighted that Ubiquinol’s active, ready-to-use form allows it to be more readily absorbed, making it particularly beneficial for older adults, individuals with cardiovascular conditions, and those concerned about healthy ageing.
Dr Walker provided evidence-based insights into how age, medical conditions, and even lifestyle factors can impact Ubiquinol levels, making supplementation essential for specific patient groups, especially those experiencing a noticeable decrease in energy levels or on medications like statins that may lower endogenous Ubiquinol levels.
For pharmacists, knowing how and when to recommend Ubiquinol is essential. Dr Walker outlined practical criteria for identifying patients who may benefit most, particularly those on statins, which are known to deplete endogenous Ubiquinol levels.
Attendees were provided with guidelines for recognising signs of Ubiquinol depletion, including fatigue, muscle weakness and a reduction in energy levels, which are especially prevalent in patients on long-term statin therapy.
Dr Walker shared his recommendations for safe dosing, emphasising the importance of individualised assessments, particularly for high-risk patients or those with polypharmacy needs. With detailed protocols on the ideal starting dosages and adjustments based on patient response, pharmacists were equipped with actionable steps to integrate Ubiquinol into patient care routines.
Managing medication interactions and ensuring safe dosing for patients already taking multiple prescriptions were particularly valuable aspects of this session, as Dr Walker shed light on how Ubiquinol can be safely introduced to a patient’s existing regimen without compromising on efficacy.
This session reinforced the growing recognition of the role Ubiquinol plays in supporting cardiovascular health, energy production and healthy ageing, equipping pharmacists to help their patients make informed choices about their health.
For healthcare professionals interested in preventative care, Ubiquinol offers an effective solution to support patients’ overall health.
